Women's Candlelight Dinner

Meaghan and Anneliese are hosting a table this year at the Women's Dinner in the Fellowship Hall on Friday, November 18. They'd love for you to join them! Tickets are $14 each. Contact Meaghan or Anneliese if you'd like to go!

And the winner of the chili cookoff is...

Scott Ferguson! Congratulations Scott! After the winners were announced, Scott revealed the secret ingredient in his award-winning chili was venison he hunted himself. Yum!

We had a great time with good food and great fellowship. Thanks to all who entered and shared their chili with us.

Chili with a Chance of Cornbread

We'd like to invite you to our first chili cookoff. This contest was originally created as a means of settling an argument between two group members who both believe their chili is superior. Would you like to prove both of them wrong? Then whip up a batch of your best to share and join us to settle this disagreement once and for all.

We've flipped!

We have been patiently waiting for our Sunday morning classic and contemporary worship services to flip times and they finally did this Sunday! From now on, the classic service is at 9:00 AM and the contemporary service is at 10:30 AM.

It was great to look up in worship this past Sunday and see our worship team glorifying the Lord. The kaleidoscope of colors in the stained glass reflected in the colorful clothes and joyful voices of our choir. You get bonus points if you can spot the members of Journey group in the worship team!

New Bible study sign-ups

Don't forget to sign up for a Bible study! The change of format to Journey group for the fall has allowed us to offer three new weekly studies lead by our own members. In order to give each leader an idea of how many people to expect, please contact him or her this week to sign up.

1.  The book of Mark: join Phillip in a study of Mark that will empower participants to dig deeper in their walk with Christ and peel back layers of the text to reveal a living, breathing word that has applications for our lives today. Study the life of Jesus, the Second Temple Period and how these influences shaped the writing of the Gospel of Mark. Text: the book of Mark. Facilitator: Phillip Pope. Location: various cafes and restaurants in the Charlotte area beginning at Dilworth Coffee in Matthews. Date and time: Mondays at 7 PM beginning September 19.

2. Living Beyond Yourself: Exploring The Fruit of the Spirit by Beth Moore: an in-depth Beth Moore study of the fruit of the Holy Spirit as presented in the book of Galatians. Moore walks through each trait and encourages women to know the freedom of a Spirit-filled life. Text: Beth Moore workbook, $15. Facilitator: Bethany Morrison. Location: 1414 Crescent Ln, Apt. F, Matthews, 28105. Date and time: Tuesdays at 7 PM, beginning September 20.

3. Devotion and Craft: join Vicki Collins in her home as she leads a thought-provoking devotional combined with a small craft. This series will be a great ministry tool for outreach, since the study does not require knowledge from the previous week in order to participate. This small group is a community where participants can share, learn, receive biblical advice and bond together with fun activities. Text: various texts and topics. Facilitator: Vickie Collins. Location: 1533 Riverton Rd., Matthews, 28104. Date and time: Thursdays at 7 PM, beginning September 22.

In addition to the new Bible studies, we've also added a new Sunday night experience. Connect on Sunday nights with our entire group starting September 25 at 5:30 in the New Fellowship Hall.  Hope to see you there!

Matthews Alive This Weekend!

We hope to see you at Matthews Alive this weekend! The festival is a Labor Day weekend celebration held in downtown Matthews to support local non-profit organizations. There is music, food, rides and local craftsmen selling their goods.

Our church's location provides a perfect opportunity for outreach at Matthews Alive. First Baptist hosts a picnic area for families to eat in the shade. Some members of our group plan to be there to pass out fliers promoting our upcoming event. We'd love to see you there! If you are looking for a new church home or to join a Bible study for people your age, come by to chat!

Sidewalk Prophets at Stumptown Park

We had a great time last night at the Sidewalk Prophets concert. New Life 91.9 hosted the band at Stumptown Park as a back-to-school celebration.  We sat and enjoyed the cooler end-of-summer weather as the Sidewalk Prophets sang some of their radio hits and even included their version of Amazing Grace.

When the concert ended, we ended the night by heading to our new Journey Group favorite, Sweet Frogs, for some frozen yogurt. Yum!
